LKB 2218 Historange rotary microtome,
The author bought his microtome on ebay in the United States. The shipping and customs costs together were almost as expensive as the cost of the microtome, but it was still very rewarding. On the back of the microtome there is a switch to switch between 115V and 230V. It is a fantastic microtome that meets all expectations. The author has added a footswitch to control the start/stop function. A magnifying lamp has also been placed to have a better view of the cutting area.
This type of microtome with retraction has been specially developed for cutting plastics and was produced by the company LKB bromma in Sweden. The production year of the Historange is 1982. See: http://www.lkbprod.com/
On the download page two documents about the Historange can be downloaded. The 'user manual' and the 'part breakdown'.
The microtome is, by the author, only used for plastics and Technovit 7100 and 8200 are mainly cut.
In the videos below various techniques are shown.
